2 things missing from the review:-

1: Key Creator software is Windows 10 only (there are people working on reverse engineering it)
2: Mini is currently £69.95 at Scan because Black Friday

The other option is to build your own:

Will provide upto 32 buttons.

They are nice bits of kit, but still ultimately way, way overpriced for what is essentially just a configurable set of short cuts. Personally I just use the 6 macro keys on my keyboard in exactly the same way - sure you dont get the little screens that show you what you are pressing, but in most cases I don't need to change what they do - I dont have a huge number of scene changes/effects to trigger (most of those are automatic via streamlabs anyway) so it gives me enough.

They are nice items but really only for those who have a real need, or the money for a bit of vanity hardware. Not that I am having a go at those that do, if I could justify it I would buy one just as it's prettier than my 6 macro keys ;)

I don't really get the appeal of something like this at that price.

Is there no app for tablets giving similar functionality.

There is, but you don't get the tactile feedback of actual switches (essential when you're trying to not look where you're prodding!)

Having now seen one in use, and knowing that, as iworrall says, you need to whack it without seeing it when you're streaming, it's similar to a set of floor pedals for an electric guitar

Anyone remember the Optimus keyboards from Art Lebedev 10+ years ago? https://www.artlebedev.com/optimus/maximus/

This is one of the problems we've had with ultrasound scanners over the last few years and it's only now that they're going back to the past and using mainly knobs, buttons and switches and ensuring that everything has its own control. They still have a touchscreen which is fine as long as it's a secondary control and only used for controls that have to be in a menu and aren't used when trying to tease some small detail out on a scan. They had a fad in the past of moving every day controls onto the touchscreens and it just made the scanners a nightmare to use. This is one of the reasons that I think those laptops with a screen for a keyboard will never take off except for in very specialist uses where they want a totally customisable console.
