I'm sat here having yet another laugh.

Can still remember how Apple was against big screens, “must be able to reach all 4 corners with the thumb of one hand”….now we are getting close to Dom Joly phone sizes..

I would expect the phone to be a similar size to the current 8 plus, the screen will be bigger due to the edge to edge design.

Phablets were a mistake…

Phablets were a mistake…
The market suggests otherwise. To the extent that “phablets” are now just “phones.”

To be fair we don't exactly have much choice these days, it's not like there are many compact options anymore.

I'd love a little 4inch phone with 1080p edge to edge display, decent camera for ‘nights out’. Doesn't need to be a powerhouse, just compact and with a decent enough battery to last the night type of thing.

Good batteries mean longer life and lower turnover. Thats why no one really tries to innovate there….a shame really. Hell i'd like a modern flip phone with apps, but I know im asking for too much.

You never know, we may see a decent upgrade to the venerable iPhone SE. Which I'd be interested in, because it isn't made of mostly glass (can live without wireless charging).

Isn't there a Palm phone coming, that's 3.3" or something?

Yes there is…

Which would be fine if I wanted to pay the ‘Apple tax’…. and switch eco systems as I'm Android and Windows based, the ONLY thing Apple I own is a gen 2 ipod nano which basically sits in it's box in a cupboard lol.

Yeah I know about that but I have this feeling that's going to be about as good as those ‘prison phones’ that seem popular due to their compact size.

To be fair, the pricing does include software support on a much longer basis than any Android phone I've ever owned. Just on that aspect I could justify to myself the “Apple tax”, as long as it isn't a £1k+ phone….

You mean the software support that until recently nerfed the performance of older hardware with each new release without telling users and only getting changed after Apple got called out on it…. hmmm, not sure that's a plus if I'm honest (not saying google is great either in all honesty though)

Same thing happened on my MacBook Air. Latest update (just before it became obsolete) made many bugs appear and destroyed performance in some strange areas. Shutting down now takes an age where previously it was a few seconds.

To be fair to apple here, some of that could be down to the Intel meltdown/spectre updates etc, I've noticed a little of that on my win 10 desktop after the updates (admittedly I am due to a clean up and reinstall).

Never noticed it on my 5S, fairly sure that only applied to 6 onwards. Agreed that it wasn't a particularly clever move on the part of Apple, regardless of phone iteration.

Ahh now that's something I didn't consider. The effect of this is probably different to what I would expect as stuff requiring grunt works just fine (image editing is just fine, for example) but for shutting down to go from 10 seconds to 2 minutes is just madness and very strange.
