It needs to be priced aggressively to stand a chance.
Seems like they would need to launch an X2 or Duo version to get into the top end.
The big R on the fan looks goofy. But it's good to see it in the flesh, so to speak.
So AMD have done it then, they have beaten Titan X Maxwell - and all it took was more power, 2.5 years, and a process shrink.

Totally agree… pricing close to a 1070 would result in these selling really well, however, that might be treading on RX580 toes. Also, since it is slotting into the current offerings, I wonder how much of that market is left since the 1060, 1070, 1080 and their own 480 models have been available for so long now.
What meh? What did you expect? We saw what Vega FE can do and RX Vega is not very far away. Considering that this product was ready (except the HBM2 memory) from last year, then we can safely say it would be an ok proposition for 500 bucks, given that its performance is still relevant now, though they didn't really push that envelope too far with this generation compared to Fiji. I think they should be bolder, they should try to cram more performance in each generation because as we see, nVIDIA is always doing a great job of extracting the last drop of performance by architecture optimization, higher clocks, removing FP precision blocks to leave room for graphics compute units, etc.
I think AMD has cheaped out and moved the graphics development project mainly in China and although I do not have anything with any country, they don't have the talent necessary to do the kind of job required.
As a Fury owner, this entire revision is pretty pointless. For me to genuinely upgrade I'd need one of the top offerings at the same or lower price than what I paid for my current card when I got it, which isn't going to happen. Na'Vi or the double edged green sword…

It is a 484mm2 chip with two stacks of HBM2; there is no way that AMD can start a price war with the cooler, quieter, and cheaper to manufacture 1070/1080. They are better off trying to flog Vega to the professional graphics crowd and focusing their efforts on the XBox Scorpio GPU (which is what big Polaris should have been all along).
Honest Question: Okay if Vega beats a Titan-Xp and P100 in single precision math and half precision math and its just below V100 in compute how comes it performs poorly in Games. Can it be that the Vega architecture is a compute focused card?

if the price is keen, the processing power equates to the 1080 which is pretty good actually. they are clocked less than the 1080 and achieve as good a scores, drivers would help push it further i'd assume as they would be beta ones. if its £350-400, could clean up and take a massive share of the 1080 market space and take the 1070 crown too. card is standard ref which isn't pretty. is that just a developer card?
AMD basically admitted taking their eye off the graphics ball for a few years, so this is to be expected. It is still majorly disappointing though, especially as Pascal was hardly a quantum leap for Nvidia (see GeForce 8).
If they price it right they could take the mid-high range, leaving the Ti for the top end.

Because the majority of games don't make much use of compute and the compute they do use is normally half precision stuff, like you suggest Vega, and most AMD GPU's, seem to favor compute, if i had to guess that probably comes from trying to address more than one market with a single design.
thats bad news as it will keep the 1080ti price up :( and no competition in the high end is bad.
Either the power consumption has been massively reduced, or AMD figured out some incredible breakthrough in air cooling, or there's two liquid cooled SKU's and hardOCP got the bottom rung air cooled model
