Intel has shipped two new D400 Series RealSense depth cameras. The new RealSense D415 and D435 are designed to add real-time 3D vision capabilities to your computer system and Intel sees them being snapped up by those working with VR/AR, robotics, drones and more. Intel's new depth cameras are easy to deploy as they come in the ready-to-use USB-powered form factor.

Equipped with Intel's latest RealSense vision processor D4, the new D400 Series cameras are ready to be put to task in or outdoors in any lighting environment. If you want to integrate your new RealSense camera and its 3D depth sensing capabilities with some special purpose software it comes with the cross-platform, open source Intel RealSense SDK 2.0.

Sagi Ben Moshe, VP & GM of the RealSense Group at Intel explained "with Intel RealSense's best-in-class depth technology, we are redefining future technologies to 'see' like a human, so devices and machines can truly enrich people's lives". Moshe went on to say that the new D400 depth cameras aren't just for developers and makers they can be built-into high volume consumer products too.

The Intel RealSense D415 has a narrow field of view and a rolling shutter that scans its environment from one side to the other to take an image. Thus the D415 is a good choice for dealing with small subjects and small detail (product development, 3D scanning etc). For a wider FOV and a global shutter, that takes its images all at once, Intel's D435 is likely to be a better choice. The single shutter also makes it better for monitoring / capturing the depth perception of objects in motion (VR / Robotics).

Both the Intel RealSense D415 and D435 are available for pre-order now, priced at $149 and $179 respectively.
