HEXUS very recently reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme - less than a week ago in fact. However, the Chinese systems maker, like most others exhibiting at the CES 2019, isn't short of new wares, including a new ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen device, and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen. If these portable business and productivity focussed machines aren't for you and you are more interested in mobile PC gaming, then Lenovo has quite a few Legion products here at CES 2019 too - including the Legion Y740 and Y540 laptops with build options up to the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs.

With the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Lenovo has managed to go thinner and lighter than ever before. Making it obvious this is the 'Carbon' from the moment you pick it up this 14.95mm thick and 1.08kg device features a visible carbon fibre weave top cover. Other key specifications of this 14-inch clamshell are:

  • Latest 8th Gen Intel Core processors
  • Display options including a 500nit, 10-bit, 4K Dolby Vision panel, or a new brighter 400nit FHD display.
  • A Dolby Atmos Speaker System featuring two top-firing tweeters and two down-firing woofers.
  • Four far-field microphones that are digital assistant ready (Cortana in Windows 10 or Amazon Alexa for PCs).
  • ThinkShutter now available on both HD and IR cameras
  • Up to 15-hours battery, LTE-A Wireless WAN.

The Lenovo X1 Yoga 4th gen convertible is the first ever to be constructed within a precision-machined aluminium chassis. Like the machine detailed above it is the thinnest and lightest ever in this generation at 15.2mm and 1.35kg. Furthermore, the minimal bezels on this device have resulted in a 17 per cent footprint reduction. Available in Iron Grey, the X1 Yoga now supports the ThinkPad Mechanical Dock and is has an integrated ThinkPad Pen Pro multi-mode pen. Again the a Dolby Atmos Speaker System is integrated into the design.

Both the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga will become available in June, with starting prices from US$1709 and US$1,929 respectively.

Lenovo Legion gaming

The Lenovo Legion Y740 and Y540 Laptops headline the range of new Legion products which encompasses laptops, desktops, keyboards, mice, headsets, and monitors.

The Legion Y740 is available in both 15- and 17-inch form factors. Depending upon the model you are interesting this laptop is available with up to an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU, as much as 32GB of RAM, a Corsair RGB keyboard, Dolby Atmos speakers, and optional Nvidia G-Sync alongside the 144Hz FHD Dolby Vision panel option. Pricing starts at $1748 from the 15-inch version and $1979 for the 17-incher. Look out for these from February.

Moving along to the more affordable 15-inch Lenovo Legion Y540, purchasers can still specify up to an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor but the GPU tops-out at an RTX 2060. Meanwhile the Y540 is quite portable for a traditional gaming laptop with its 2.3Kg. A white backlit keyboard and Harman Kardon speakers and supports Dolby Atmos add to the value on offer. US$929 is the starting price for this machine and it will hit retail in May.
