PRESS RELEASE

Smart and unmanaged switches, including models with PoE and PoE+, answer all company needs

Hoofddorp – 12 October 2018. Buffalo EU B.V., a global provider of network attached storage (NAS), USB storage, wired and wireless networking solutions, announces the launch of 13 new models of Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switches for enterprises to complement its current portfolio. The new product line spans managed and unmanaged switches, from 5 to 24 ports, including models with PoE and PoE+ support.

BS-GS(P): Multi-Port Gigabit Managed switches

The BS-GSP and BS-GS Gigabit Multi-Port Switches (8, 16 and 24 ports) are ideal to easily and cost-effectively extend gigabit network infrastructures while providing advanced management, reliability and all advantages of Power over Ethernet technology (BS-GSP).

These devices are equipped with Gigabit auto-sensing ports and SFP slots for fiber connectivity (16-port and 24-port on both series). Easily manageable via HTTP / HTTPS web interface, the new BS-GS and BS-GSP series of switches from Buffalo offer advanced management features, like network device monitoring over SNMP, VLAN configuration, port trunking/link aggregation, DHCP snooping, STP support and QoS 802.1p. The BS-GSP Series also includes an energy conservation feature that monitors the activity status of each port to reduce the power consumption. The BS-GSP series features both IEEE 802.3af (PoE) and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) delivering even more power over the Ethernet cable, to a maximum of 180W.

BS-GU(P): Multi-Port Gigabit Unmanaged switches

The BS-GU series of switches consists of Multi-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Switches with 5, 8, 16 or 24 ports. They offer gigabit speeds and eco-minded features like 802.3az Green Ethernet technology and an energy conservation feature that monitors the activity status of each port to reduce the total power consumption, therefore reducing related operational costs.

Plug-and-play installation requires no additional software or configuration; each gigabit port uses autosensing to configure the correct connection while full duplex operation and optional jumbo frame support provide maximum performance. The BS-GUP series additionally features Power over Ethernet.

Durable and reliable design

A durable metal chassis and reliable design allow the switches to be used in environments with an ambient temperature up to 50°C ambient temperature, enabling placement in ceilings or cupboards in an office, warehouse or factory. The switches benefit from Buffalo’s high-quality lifetime warranty. Registered customers can rely on replacements in case of hardware failure as long as they own the product.

Most of these switches can be configured and managed with the free Network QuickView management tool, which can also monitor Buffalo TeraStation™ NAS devices. On a single screen, admins can quickly detect network failures or set up email notifications in case of problems. Additionally, the tool allows for easy firmware maintenance across multiple devices. Administrators can also quickly backup device configurations and restore these to replacement devices.

The new Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switches are ideal for companies that need to separate networks between departments (such as R&D or finances) to avoid security risks, or for hotels and resorts that need internet access in every room while preventing access to sensitive customer information or IP surveillance camera footage.

Recommended retails prices (including VAT) range from £38.99 for BS-GU2005 up to £439.99 for BS-GS2024P.
