Whilst Microsoft and Sony spent the best part of E3 2010 playing catch up with Wii, Nintendo might have stole the show with the unveiling of the next-generation Nintendo 3DS.

Arriving as a successor to the hugely-popular DS, DS Lite and DSi, the 3DS looks almost certain to bring glasses-free 3D gaming to the masses, but Nintendo remained coy regarding pricing and availability.

Shedding a little light on the matter, Reggie Fils-Aime, chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, has revealed the 3DS will be made available across the globe by March next year.

Speaking in an interview to industrygamers.com, Reggie stated that "the reason we haven’t announced a launch date or pricing is that, first, we wanted to get reaction here".

"The one thing, for sure, is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011".

Suggesting that the 3DS may be subject to a staggered introduction in multiple regions, he adds that Nintendo will be "making individual market decisions in terms of what’s happening in Japan, what’s happening in the Americas, what’s happening in Europe".

There's still no mention of pricing, but that info may not come until Nintendo wraps up the 3DS design. According to Reggie, one of Nintendo's E3 goals was to gauge user reactions to the handheld's controls, and the company's designers are still working to "finalise the design".
