The other end of the market

Nokia might not be making too much headway in the high-end smartphone market, but it's still the global leader in smartphone sales by quite some margin. A big reason for this is its continued success in the lower ends of the market and in emerging markets where people just want affordable mobile phones.

At a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya, Nokia unveiled four new feature-phones, the cheapest of which costs a mere €30 before subsidies. Furthermore, the C1-00 is the first Nokia phone to offer a 2-in-1 SIM solution, and it's even got a torch!

"By simply holding down a key, people are able to switch between SIM cards. This enables them to take advantage of reduced call rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or helps with sharing a phone within a family and still use their own SIM," said Alex Lambeek, VP at Nokia. "This is a great added convenience feature considering the low price of the phone."

The C1-01 and C1-02 cost €35 and €39 respectively and don't offer the dual-SIM option. They do, however, have some extra features like web-browsing and Micro-SD support. The C2-00 costs €45, has dual-SIM and you can have them both active or on standby.

Lastly there's also a bit of kit that takes us back to our school-boy days. Nokia unveiled the Nokia Bicycle Charger, which is a Nokia charger lead attached to a bike dynamo plus a phone holder. This way people in communities where electricity is hard to come by can still charge their phones. Cool eh?

Good idea on the bike mount/charger front…

Absolutely - I'd buy one :) 40 minutes extra charging every day sounds brilliant :D
Missing ‘N’ in the first word :)
Obviously aimed at emerging markets in Africa and Asia.

But that C2 fulfills all I want from a phone.

Wonder how long it will take for companies like Expansys to get their hands on a shipment?
