Office politics

Software giant Microsoft has announced the launch date for the 2010 versions of Office, SharePoint, Visio and Project - 12 May. It has also unveiled its Office 2010 ‘technology guarantee' which offers a free upgrade to 2010 if you buy Office 2007 now.

Office 2010 will be released to manufacturing next month, and will be made available to consumers in June 2010. The tech guarantee applies to anyone who activates Office 2007 between 5 March and 30 September, has a Windows Live ID and goes to www.office.com/techg to sort it out.

While Microsoft understandably doesn't want a complete drying-up of Office sales prior to the 2010 launch, this offer doesn't seem too tempting on price alone.

Here's the table from the HEXUS February story announcing UK Office 2010 pricing...

Office 2010 product edition Product Key Card Boxed Retail

Great!!! by 2013 many companies might be using it!!! - mine still uses '03 (as a side note does anyone else think 07 is aload of rubbish everything is hidden under tabs which makes it less functional)
well at first I'd agree with you…I mean trying to get the 2007 ver of excel to do general stuff can be VERY frustrating. However, once 2007 grows on you…and you learn the short cuts…it becomes…well…usable. Perhaps the 2010 version would have the same UI as the 2007 one but with much more advanced features….I know there are some I would certainly pay for :)

Yep, my firm only just recently rolled out 2007 and not even everyone in the firm has it yet. I think everyone will have by next year.

So might see it by 2014?

No. I quite like the tabs, find them more efficient - imo it's easier to use, especially working with things like tables, images etc… as the relevant stuff all appears in the one tab (or two tabs) at the far right.
We pushed 07 out over the xmas break, not many people liked it to start with, feck knows why they played with the layout I still prefer the look/feel of 03 but if its out there people will use it..
