Introduction

Tagan who?

I asked myself the same question when their TG480-U01 ATX 2.03 PSU arrived. I've been around the enthusiast computing scene since the good old days and I've never heard of them. A quick glance at their website showed why. Implausibly, the company was formed when a bunch of PSU designers and engineers met at Computex 2002 in Taipei. They met at some dinner party and decided, probably drunk, that because they collectively knew everything about PSUs and that a market existed for very high quality ATX power supplies, they should knock their heads together and come up with something.

They toiled away for a year or so, testing what was on the market already and working on their own designs. Plenty of beer and blown capacitors later, they've hit market with some apparently ultra high quality ATX power supplies.

I don't say that lightly either, it really does appear that Tagan have gone the extra mile with their supplies. But the proof is in the pudding as they say. I'll make my excuses now, this is an isolated, quick, PSU review up against a supply I've had for over 3 years (the receipt says the 10th January 2001, the same day I spent Ā£420 on a GeForce 2 Ultra, a faintly rediculous US$772 at the current exchange rate), using methods which are pretty unscientific at best.

We better look into creating a PSU test rig I guess. Onwards to the PSU itself.
