At GamesCon 2009, the latest iteration in Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo series, Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) made quite an impact, with gameplay footage showing off the game's new damage modeliing system to spectacular effect.

Further information has now been revealed on GT5 via the official Polyphony Digital website. Though the list of features has now been removed, GT Planet has managed to salvage some of the information, which includes news that the game will feature 1,000 cars!

Included in the exhaustive list of vehicles will be electric cars, such as the Honda Insight and Toyato Prius. Furthermore, approximately 170 vehicles will feature realisitc interior damage modeling. The rest of the roster will show external damage only. It's believed that Polyphony Digital's hasn't been able to persuade some car manufacturers to let them virtually smash up their vehicles inside and out.

Though the release date hasn't official been announced, it's rumoured that we'll be able to get our hands on GT5 this side of Christmas.

Check out this GamesCon video, which shows off the new damage modeling system.

GT5 is turning into Duke Nukem Forever……
To be fair they haven't redeveloped GT5 numerous times. It take forever modelling all those cars.

That said if it does get released in the UK this year, i'll eat my hat :D

Would you like some ketchup with that sir?

Although if I were a betting man, I'd put money down on it, even if the odds wont give me much back. :/
