Sony has patented an emotion detector that will work in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye camera and microphone to detect our many moods, claims site Siliconera

The camera will pick up expressions on our face, while the microphone will detect sounds, such as laughter. The patent states that the emotion detector will also be able to differentiate between our many moods, detecting when we're sad, excited, angry or even bored. The patent explains that boredom is detected if the user is “looking away from the presentation, yawning, or talking over the presentation.”

The application isn't limited to just games either, but can also be applied to films and T.V. shows.

The only use I could think of for this is data collection or whatever it's called - to see what people think of their programs. Why on Earth would someone want to have their emotions detected and databased? I'm assuming it's optional because you could disconnect camera etc but doesn't this kind of remove someone's free will to say what they want about a program? Or it could be added to someone's status - ‘John is feeling depressed today’ so people can see that and say stuff to make him feel worse? It's sick!
