In a move that's bound to cause controversy, Konami has announced that it is working on Six Days in Fallujah, a military shooter focusing on factual events from the recent war in Iraq.

Currently in development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and developed by Atomic Games, Six Days in Fallujah is a third person shooter experience that puts the player in the center of the largest urban military operation in four decades. It will combine the action of a military shooter with the realism of a documentary film to create a new kind of experience. Partnering with over three dozen US Marines to help develop the game along with unprecedented access to battle plans, after action reports, photos, videos and satellite maps makes this game the most authentic military shooter to date. Be prepared to take part in missions, objectives and scenarios based on factual events.

Six Days in Fallujah lets players experience the historic battle of Fallujah as a US Marine fire-team leader and places them in the heat of the action against the insurgency. Players are able to physically shape the battlefield just as US Marines did during the battle in Fallujah. Create new lines of attack by kicking in doors, blowing up walls, eliminating enemy cover and destroying the environment around them.

To make the battle even more authentic, heavy emphasis has been put into the environments using real world satellite maps, weapons from US Marines and vehicles used in the conflict to fully immerse players in this epic confrontation and experience what it was like to be a Marine on the ground. In addition, Six Days in Fallujah will include multiplayer functionality - allowing players to team up with other fire team members in co-op and online modes.

I'm not sure this is in good taste. I don't really know why either. A lot of games are based on WW1 or WW2. Even Vietnam.
I think it's a bit too soon to bring out. I think maybe it's because it's making entertainment out of something not good. I think it's wrong to make it so realistic. Especially with maps and stuff.

Then again, for me in other genres like GTA IV and other violent games the realism is welcome. Guess that makes me a hipacryte? Oh well, everyone has an opion I suppose. :(
I don't mind having to put up with fiction set US/British jingoistic propaganda and white washing history in most military based shooters but getting to act as a US marine leader in a brutal medieval style siege that happened only a few years ago and was part of an ongoing occupation is a bit much. The US military were involved in mass war crimes during that operation, as was well documented at the time, perhaps Konami will show that side of it (some chance).

Imagine the uproar if a game came out allowing you to fly planes into the twin towers (and no microsoft flight simulators don't count) or bomb london buses.
that game just looks like CoD4 :o
and they desperately need some AA on those screen shots!
be a good game though if the graphics get a little better and the gameplay is good enough :)
