In Microsoft's latest blogcast from TGS '08, Xbox Live's Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) and Aaron Greenberg (BIGVIP) have once again confirmed that Blu-ray functionality is not coming to the Xbox 360 console.
The rumour that simply doesn't seem to go away, reappeared earlier this week with Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp. reported to be bringing an Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on device to retail.
In a possibly futile attempt to put the rumour to bed once and for all, Aaron Greenberg states:
"We have no plans to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience. We believe that we shouldn't force consumers to pay for things they don't want, we also believe that the future is digital, and that's why we've invested in a massive library of entertainment content."
"It's pretty clear that Blu-ray is not the next DVD, the days of one physical format being the standard I think are gone."
There you have it, folks. Don't be expecting to play Blu-ray discs on an Xbox 360 anytime soon, if at all.
