In addition to the unveiling of the DSi , Nintendo's latest hand-held model, at the Business and Media Meeting in Tokyo yesterday, the Japanese manufacturer a new channel for its Wii console.

WiiSpeak is the upcoming microphone accessory for Wii, which connects to the console via USB, the device can be placed near the video display, allowing voice chat to be conducted with the entire room. We already heard that it is being used in Animal Crossing: City Folk, but now we know that it will in fact have its own dedicated channel which we'll be able to download by inputting a code that will be bundled with the microphone.

The chat rooms will allow four people, visually represented by their chosen Mii avatars, on different consoles to converse. From the chat rooms you'll be able to exchange photos and send messages. We presume you'll have to have the Wii code of your friend to invite them into a chat room.

The WiiSpeak Channel will launch on November 16, 2008
