The Financial Times is reporting that Activision and MTV are getting closer to sealing a deal with The Beatles that could be worth 'several million dollars'.

The Beatles songs were one of the most protected back-catalogues in music history, but recently the publisher loosened its grip on the material and allowed songs from Lennon and McCartney to be sung on the popular American Idol show.

Martin Bandier, Chairman and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing hinted a few months ago that they'd be interested in creating a standalone Beatles edition for one of Activision's biggest franchises, Guitar Hero.

"It's something we have talked about and something I'd like to pursue," he told the Los Angeles Times.

With Guitar Hero: Aerosmith due for release later this week, what's the betting that Guitar Hero: The Beatles will definitely get made? Now that would be amazing, not to mention being an extremely lucrative prospect for the publisher.

The dream is becoming closer to reality and if the deal is struck it's also likely that MTV Games would use The Beatles back catalogue for Rock Band! Even better!
