Get The Verve on yer valves

Old fashioned clean power from Maxpoint Over here at Computex 2008 in Taipei we spotted a sexy looking iPod dock and speakers with an audiophile's wet dream strapped on the back (well, in the middle). The iPod dock from Maxpoint, the guys who do all the ICYBOX stuff, is a rather sleek steel affair with a couple of stylishly retro valves fitted in the middle of the system.

At first I thought these might be used as part of the amp processing but no, the valves are there to clean up the power supply to reduce noise and give a cleaner, crisper sound. As is the way with audiophyllic gadgets like this, I couldn’t tell one way or the other so I guess well have to take their word for it.

Still, it’s an attractive, if slightly over-long, iPod dock which will even work with the iPhone very soon too.
