Wandtastic… in a retro way

Anyone remember Dungeon Master? No? Ok, at the risk of showing my age, Dungeon Master was a milestone in gaming. Published way back in 1987 on the Atari ST, and then a year later on the far superior (cue flame war) Amiga, Dungeon Master is widely regarded as the first 3D real-time action RPG… and it was an absolute corker. In fact, if you wanted to be really pedantic, you could look at every FPRPG and find something in there that DM had done first.

But enough nostalgia, you’re probably wondering what all this history has to do with EA’s Orcs and Elves on the Nintendo DS. Well, simply put, Orcs and Elves is the modern day Dungeon Master. You’ve got a first person view, a fair selection of weapons and a load of dungeons to romp around in fighting an assortment of baddies.



But the question is this: Can a 2007 handheld game be as good as the 20 year old home computer based daddy that it so closely resembles? And the answer? Well that unfolds in the next few pages…
