Shiver me timbers, we're giving away copies of the Pirate RPG from Sony

To celebrate the launch of the swashbuckling adventure Pirates of the Caribbean, Sony Online Entertainment is offering 5HEXUS.gaming readers the chance to win copies of the game.

As a captain in Pirates of the Burning Sea, you can choose among the French, Spanish, English, or Pirate nations, playing a naval officer, a freetrader, a privateer, or a pirate as you like. Action–filled ship battles take place at sea, where players can destroy or board and seize their competitors' ship. On land, a world of swashbuckling adventure awaits full of sword-swinging action. The unique player-driven economy means players can be a captain of industry too, running mines, lumber mills, shipyards and other large-scale operations to produce the tons of goods needed to supply every player in the game with what they need. Through the player-generated content system, players can create their own sail and flag designs to display in game and even model their own ships.

How long do you think it'll take for someone to make a Guybrush Threepwood? :D

Have you been playing this Chris? I've not been able to get on the beta as yet, so I'm waiting for the retail copy to arrive.
Nope I havent been able to get into the Beta or anything for this one. Shame really wouldn't mind trying it but seeing as theres a competition I thought I would enter. I did strangely enough get into the beta for Hellgate London tho, but that was complete and utter rubbish. :(

Looks pretty interesting the actual game. The Avatar system looks capable of making a Guybrush so thats good enough for me! :D

If you goto this site you can pre-order the game digitally and they'll send you a pre-boarding code with all the cool in-game extras (most digital downloads don't these). It's 10EU to pre-order (they then send you a code to get 10EU off the price of the full game when it's released) and I don't think you have any obligation to get the full game when it's released. Only a few days left of pre-boarding though, ends on monday, so ye better be quick.

Been playing it for a while now, got into the open beta before christmas, I'm quite amazed how much they improved the game actually. They've tweaked the difficulty and number of newbie missions a bit and I think it made them a lot more interesting as they are now a bit more challenging. It's still got quite a few bugs, definitely rough around the edges, but the core of the game works really well.

It's got quite a steep learning curve too, they don't explain a huge amount in the tutorial, just the very basics of how combat and stuff works.

If you manage to get on, I'm on the Morgan server, Spanish, it's got just the right population right now, not completely overloaded but still lively.

Naval Officers are the way to go IMO, they get the big guns, Pirates tend to be the domain of the 14 year old kids (although there are exceptions), as are the British. If you guys have any newbie questions about the game when you start I'd be happy to help out, I'm sure you'll have a lot, there are still quite few things even the veterans have questions about.
Lame, I was glad when I found out the only thing SOE did was distribution for the game and had no creative control, but it seems even that is too much for them. The game was supposed to be released today but SOE's station service has screwed up, meaning no-one can activate their game so no-one can play.
