Claiming a price-breakthrough at £99, Hauppauge today unveiled its latest satellite TV tuner card, allowing for the viewing of free-to-air HD content via PC or linked TV, with no subscription fees of course.

The lack of subscription fees does not extend to the regular TV license fee. However the BBC contributes heavily, according to Hauppauge, to the free-to-air HD content revolution.

Satellite HD broadcasts of Planet Earth, Torchwood and Coast, through to live event coverage including football, Six Nations Rugby and Wimbledon are just part of the BBC's free-to-air HD content repertoire. Free-to-air standard definition content brings up the back-end of this satellite TV card.

The WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 card requires a free PCI slot in the host system and connection to a dish pointed at the appropriate satellite - Astra 2D in the case of the BBC's HD trial.

Cyberlink's PowerCinema software is also bundled in to the equation, providing the means to viewing full screen TV or, TV-in-a-window on the PC.

Recording capabilities are also not overlooked. DiSEqC 1.0 is supported states the company and this allows switching between four satellite sources. Users may also record programming to disk, using the H.264 high definition format.

A high specification PC for the card to bed into is also recommended, with specifications such as a 3.2GHz system processor and 1GB of system RAM being thrown around.
