New Guitar Hero title announced

Activision has confirmed that a new title in the Guitar Hero franchise will be released this summer. Guitar Hero: Rocks will be available exclusively for PS2 and there are currently no plans to bring it to Xbox 360. The good news for Xbox 360 owners, well for me actually, is that I've never heard of any of the songs so it's no big loss.

Maybe I'm just not rock 'n roll enough, but I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who have heard of I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister, I Ran by Flock of Seagulls,Round and Round,as made famous by Ratt, I Want Candy as made famous by Bow Wow Wow,Metal Health as made famous by Quiet Riot,Holy Diver as made famous by Dio and Heat Of The Moment as made famous by Asia. In total there will be 30 tracks on the new game and you'll be able to jam in a number of retro rock venues.

"The 80s features an amazing variety of rock genres from hair metal to punk to new wave, and our dedicated Guitar Hero fans will definitely appreciate the opportunity to play all the new and exciting content we've added," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane. "As we delve deeper into the history of rock, we'll continue to offer a fresh experience and even more explosive tracks with the Guitar Hero franchise."

I'll lay a bet down that the new tracks and venues will appear as downloadable content on Xbox live at a ridiculous price... oh and there's still no 'Stairway'!! Blasphemous, to be honest.

I'm ashamed of you, go learn your rock

EDIT: OMG 777th post
Huh?
Well, Steve I'm ashamed of
Oh aye… but to be honest, he has a point…

If he's a fairly mainstream music fan and he doesn't recognise the tunes, then how is the selection supposed to appeal tot he mainstream user.

You could be elitist and say that it's not supposed to and this is for rockers only, but to be honest I think the Harmonix boys are getting a tad blinkered… or maybe it a lack of willingness to cough up the license fees for the better known tracks…

I could be wrong and maybe more mainstream stuff just isn't suited to GH games but I don't see how…. and it still doesn't explain the lack of Stairway, not when we had Jessica on GH2…
Yeah, they could go for more mainstream tracks, but I think they now have brand power behind them with two successful games and can now “teach” people about great bands they may not have heard of before.

You also got to weigh in that the songs have to be fun to play, more mainstream bands and popular songs like the Foo Fighters and Smoke on the Water might sound good, but the songs are so boring to play on GH.

I think GH 1 and 2 had it right though, some well known songs, or some lesser known songs by well known bands mixed in with some stuff most people would never have heard of.

As for stairway, not sure why they're leaving that one out, perhaps they want to find a great vocalist first.
