Rockstar respond to UK ban

Yesterday, Rockstar's ManHunt 2 became only the second game to be banned in Britain in the last decade, due to its graphic violence and portrayal of casual sadism.

Rockstar has issued a statement, that suggests that the company may make an appeal against the decision. "We are disappointed with the recent decision by the British Board of Film Classification to refuse classification of Manhunt 2. While we respect the authority of the classification board and will abide by the rules, we emphatically disagree with this particular decision," reads the statement.

"Manhunt 2 is an entertainment experience for fans of psychological thrillers and horror. The subject matter of this game is in line with other mainstream entertainment choices for adult consumers."

The statement continues: "We believe all products should be rated to allow the public to make informed choices about the media and art they wish to consume. The stories in modern videogames are as diverse as the stories in books, film and television. The adult consumers who would play this game fully understand that it is fictional interactive entertainment and nothing more."

The last game to be banned in the UK was Carmageddon, but the ruling was overturned following an appeal by the licensee.

I hope they succeed, I don't mind games companies putting in place content filters as a compromise which can be repealed with a password that you create.

Then again, that'd be something for responsible parents to use…
yet another BBFC ruling that needs over turning. People see alot worse on the news and in the papers, so why ban a game that will carry a cert rating?

Never fails to amaze me how such people can simply say “Ban this”

I have 3 kids and i'm very very careful about what i let them see and watch, so why not let it pass

Because a lot of parents dont :(
I personally fail to see what so great about the first game that justifys a second…other than shock value.

Very true.

Parents should have licences really.
This is ridiculous, the game is 18 rated. Movies this violent don't even raise an eyebrow anymore. If a kid gets hold of something like this it's only the parents fault really. Nanny state just takes responsibility away from the parents, and in cases like this just makes it even easier to get hold of the game. If something is illegal most people don't bother about the age certificate.
