The combined high performance and low power consumption of modern mobile processors makes them a great candidate for use in desktop PCs, particularly in the living room. Of course, it's been done already, numerous times, so it's no surprise that Intel's Core processors are getting the same treatment as their predecessors, like with this new motherboard from Gigabyte.
The board is a mobile-on-desktop (MoDT) model, designed for Intel's 65nm Core Duo processors, running on the low power Mobile 945GM core logic. There's the usual desktop-esque array of connectivity, such as USB 2.0, serial ATA, PCIe, PCI and HD audio. Furthermore, the board meets Intel's Viiv spec and so can be marketed as such.
Gigabyte continues to plough forward with its cutting edge naming scheme, so this new, potentially very desirable MoDT board has been dubbed the GA-8I945GMMFY-RH; the name alone makes you want to drop everything you're doing and go buy one right now, doesn't it? That aside, Core Duo processors pack a punch, so having one in a quiet desktop PC is an appealing proposition. Keep an eye out for a review of this board in the future!
