Acer is at the IFA 2019 in Berlin with a large range of products. Its latest next@acer product splurge includes gaming laptops and gaming monitors, new ConceptD Pro series laptops, Acer Swift and Aspire C laptops, Chromebooks, projectors, and more. Today I will be looking at the PC gaming side of things most closely with the Predator and Nitro ranges as well as an updated Thronos Air ergonomic gaming chair with built-in massage facilities.

Acer Predator Triton 300 gaming laptop

The Acer Predator Triton 300 is a gaming laptop that is said to deliver "a perfect blend of performance and features, all wrapped up in a slim design". This 15.6-inch screen packing aluminium chassis constructed machine is 22.9mm thick and weighs in at a reasonable 2.3kg. Remember this is an 'entry level' gaming design.

Other key specs of the Triton 300 are the; 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display with narrow bezel design and a 144Hz refresh rate with 3ms overdrive response time, up to a 9th gen Intel Core i7 Processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU, 16GB of DDR4 2666Hz memory (upgradable to 32GB), support up to two 1TB PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 and up to a 2TB hard drive, Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX 1650 along with Killer Ethernet, Waves Nx audio, keyboard with zoned RGB lighting and dedicated Turbo and Predator Sense keys.

Inside the Acer Predator Triton 300, keeping things cool, is Acer's 4th gen AeroBlade 3D metal fan technology, with CoolBoost technology, helped along by strategically placed air intake and exhaust vents.

The Predator Triton 300 will be available in EMEA in Q4 starting at EUR 1299.

Acer Predator Triton 500 gaming laptop

The existing Acer Predator Triton 500 model has been improved with an update at IFA. This slimmed down 17.9mm 2.1kg gaming laptop now features a 300Hz 15.6-inch Full HD display. Meanwhile, the internals have been boosted with options up to a 9th gen Intel Core i7 processor.

The new Predator Triton 500 will be available in EMEA in Q4 starting at EUR 2699.

Acer Nitro VX3 series gaming monitors

Acer is showing off four new Nitro VX3 series gaming monitors at IFA 2019. The two 24.5-inch, and 27-inch monitors have the following key specs:

  • Acer Nitro XV253Q X 24.5-inch Full HD 240Hz (from Q1 2020, £349)
  • Acer Nitro XV253Q P 24.5-inch Full HD 144Hz (from Q1 2020, £269)
  • Acer Nitro XV273U S 27-inch WQHD 165Hz
  • Acer Nitro XV273 X 27-inch Full HD 240Hz (from Nov, £399)

All the above are Nvidia G-Sync compatible and feature Adaptive-Sync technology for supporting dynamic refresh rates, eliminating screen tearing and minimising lag. They offer up to 1ms and Visual Response Boost (VRB) for smoother gameplay. Acer Agile-Splendor technology utilises panels with both fast liquid crystals as well as 99 per cent sRGB wide colour gamuts.

All the gaming monitors come with Acer's VisionCare with Flickerless, BlueLightShield, ComfyView and low-dimming technologies - as well as Acer Game Modes support (Action, Racing, Sport, User, Standard, ECO, Graphic and Movie) plus Black Boost equaliser settings. These monitors come with quick-release VESA compatible ergonomically-designed stands with 20° swivel and tilt adjustments.

Predator Thronos Air gaming chair

Acer has added the Thronos Air gaming chair to its gamer seating range. Like the previous design, this is a body encompassing full-immersion ready construction of chair, modular desk and monitor arm (for up to 3x displays).

A particular new attraction this time around is that the chair has gained a massage function - said to be implemented to help relax gamers after intense sessions.

The Predator Thronos Air will be available in EMEA in Q4 starting at EUR 8975.

“to help relax gamers after intense sessions”. *Insert “happy ending” joke here*
For the Triton 300 gaming laptop, would money be better spent using a Core i5 rather than an i7, and then putting in better gfx than a GTX 1650?
