PRESS RELEASE

Taipei, Taiwan, November 29, 2018 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. today launched the HS-453DX, a silent NAS that features an Intel® Celeron® quad-core processor, HDMI 2.0 (4K 60Hz) output, 4K real-time transcoding, and 10GbE high-speed connectivity. Contained within a stylish set-top design, the HS-453DX features a fanless cooling solution that makes it the perfect addition to living rooms and existing home theater setups. The HS-453DX has also won the CES 2019 Innovation Award and Computex d&i Award for high-quality product design.

Powered by an Intel® Celeron® J4105 quad-core 1.5 GHz processor (burst up to 2.5 GHz) with 4GB/8GB DDR4 memory and two 3.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s drive bays, the HS-453DX delivers up to 677 MB/s read/write speeds. With two M.2 2280 SATA SSD slots (M.2 SSDs sold separately) the HS-453DX also provides a hybrid storage structure with SSD caching reinforcing traditional hard drives, helping to optimize the performance of demanding applications (including media streaming applications such as Roon Server). 10GbE connectivity is also provided with a built-in 10GBASE-T five-speed port (supports 10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100M) to provide users with a future-proofed storage solution.

"From TVs to game consoles to mobile devices, 4K enjoys full-spectrum support throughout modern digital homes. With the larger file sizes and higher bitrates of 4K media files, home users require a suitable storage solution to deliver a smooth multimedia experience. The HS-453DX not only features an HDMI 2.0 port for direct 4K 60Hz output, but also supports M.2 SSD caching and 10GbE connectivity to empower smooth streaming and fast file transfers. With its set-top-box design and fanless cooling, the silent HS-453DX is a perfect fit for modern living rooms," said Jason Hsu, Product Manager of QNAP.

The HS-453DX provides a wide range of multimedia applications, including: dual-channel 4K real-time transcoding (converts videos to universal file formats for playback on different devices); Plex® Media Server streams media to DLNA® devices, Roku®, Apple TV®, Amazon Fire TV® and Google Chromecast™; Cinema28 turns the HS-453DX into a centralized home multimedia hub; and OceanKTV allows the HS-453DX to be used a karaoke machine.

With support for software-defined SSD RAID extra over-provisioning (OP), the HS-453DX enables users to allocate additional OP space (1% to 60%) to optimize SSD random write speeds and to extend SSD lifespan. The HS-453DX also provides a wide range of applications in the App Center: "IFTTT Agent" and "Qfiling" automates user workflows for improved efficiency and productivity; "Qsirch" provides full-text search for quickly finding files; and "Qsync" simplifies file sharing and syncing across devices. Support for block-based Snapshot can also help users to mitigate the potential impact of ransomware and malware.
