MSI has launched its first military themed laptop. The MSI Camo Squad Limited Edition GE62VR is designed to stand out in the crowd thanks to its camouflage war paint. If that idea sounds a little topsy-turvy, it's because this gaming laptop will be really eye catching among a line of black and (predominantly) red rivals, but not if you lost it in the jungle.

As a limited edition, MSI doesn't stop by just giving this laptop a new outer finish. The product is presented in a bundle with the following gear:

  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, with Season Pass
  • A camo backpack,
  • A camo water bottle,
  • MSI dog tags,
  • And a camo mousepad.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands might well be one of the sources of inspiration for this new camo laptop range. The camo patterns are said to be "unique" but I don't know if MSI means unique in the industry or individually unique. Appropriately this laptop doesn't offer RGB LED lighting zones but does offer a full colour backlit SteelSeries keyboard.

Looking at the hardware, this 15.6-inch laptop is available in a number of configurations from MSI. As well as a choice of up to 7th Gen. Intel Core i7 processor, users must decide whether they want the FHD or 4K IPS display panel, and a GeForce GTX 1060 3G or 1060 6G. Two DIMM slots provide options up to 32GB DDR4, and the system has both a M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 / SATA slot and a 2.5-inch SATA HDD connector.

Other attractive features of these laptops are; the Cooler Boost 4 Technology, a DVD Super Multi drive, HD webcam, Killer Gb LAN, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and BT 4.2, Nahimic 2 Sound Technology with stereo speakers plus a built-in woofer, plenty of USB ports including 1x Type-C USB 3.1 Gen2, and an SD card reader. Size and weight is 383 x 260 x 27~29mm and 2.4Kg.

With slightly lower specs MSI has launched the similarly named GE62 7RE Camo Squad Limited Edition. It looks like it shares the same key specs as listed above but tops out with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (2G/4G) graphics chip.

This is not the only Camo Squad product from MSI in recent months. As you can see on the product line landing page, MSI also makes the Trident Camo Squad gaming desktop, a Camo Squad GeForce GTX 1060 6G, and a Z270 Camo Squad motherboard. All these products qualify for at least the free aforementioned Ghost Recon game from Ubisoft.

This will be perfect when I next go out in my dust themed ghillie suit to play video games in the sunshine. Thanks MSI.
“this gaming laptop will be really eye catching among a line of black and red rivals, but not if you lost it in the jungle”
It's desert cam. It'd stand out just fine in the jungle… more so when the humidity corrodes the internals, causing the machine to brick and the 9-year-old owner to scream in rage… assuming they haven't already rage-quit from lack of WiFi signal!!

Really?
So the Aorus Camo laptop that Gigabyte already announced back in 2015 escaped your attention did it, MSI? Must have been good camouflage:

Claims that with its camouflage styling, it will “undoubtedly stand out” in the crowd

I can't help but think of this sentence continuing with:

, prompting someone to steal it.

To indicate how things could end up happening.
Does the gareish RGB keyboard not slightly defeat the point of it being camo? Hideous, either way.
I can't see it to be fair…
