SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 10, 2003 – The worldwide Intel Developer Forum (IDF), Intel Corporation’s semi-annual showcase for hardware and software developers, kicks off the "Spring 2003" circuit next month in San Jose, Calif. The five international conferences, all to be staged in April, include a new host city to the IDF program: Berlin.

Spanning Western Europe, the Far East, Asian subcontinent and the United States, the six upcoming IDFs will bring together developers and the newest technology and vision from Intel and other industry leaders.

The IDF Spring 2003 schedule as announced today: San Jose, Feb. 18-21; Tokyo, April 9-11; Taipei, Taiwan, April 14-15; Beijing, April 17-18; Bangalore, India, April 22-23; and Berlin, April 28-30.

First up is the four-day conference at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The event will include 170 hours of sessions and labs -- nearly 200 hours of technical content in all covering clients, servers, software, communications, public policy and other areas of interest. A wide range of technologies will be addressed, including HyperThreading, PCI Express*, wireless innovations, security advances and mobile and modular platforms. Attendees will also receive essential information on the latest on Intel® Pentium® 4- and Intel® Itanium™-based platforms, Intel® Internet Exchange Architecture, Intel® Personal Internet Client Architecture and Intel’s research and development labs.

Intel Chief Executive Officer Craig Barrett will deliver the Feb. 18 opening keynote, discussing corporate strategy related to the convergence of computing and communications, as well as silicon integration and solutions. Keynotes over the following three days will cover Internet clients (desktop, mobile and handheld), Wednesday; communications infrastructure and the enterprise, Thursday; and research and development, Friday.

"From the compelling keynotes to the forward-minded sessions, IDF supports the exchange of information critical for success in today's evolving economy," said Feb. 21 keynoter Patrick Gelsinger, Intel senior vice president and chief technology officer. "Focus of IDF Spring 2003 will be on creating exciting technologies that allow all computers to communicate and all communications devices to compute. The upcoming conferences will catalyze the people and the knowledge driving this convergence, and ultimately influence products and solutions."

Among the new features at the U.S. conference will be a "vision panel" hosted by IDF and Technology Review, MIT's "magazine of innovation." The panel (Feb. 18) will be moderated by Technology Review editor Robert Buderi, and cover the latest approaches and applications in distributed computing, file sharing and search, wireless gathering and distribution of information and adaptive streaming media.

Sponsors of the U.S. event are Analog Devices Inc., HP and Rambus (Gold Sponsors), and ATI Technologies Inc., Hitachi Ltd., Infineon Technologies Corporation, Samsung, Seagate, ServerWorks Inc. and SuperMicro (Silver Sponsors).

IDF Fall 2002: A Record Success

Despite a continued economic down-turn that has impacted the event industry, particularly in the staging and attending of technical conferences, the IDF program grew again in the second half of last year. A record 11,000 developers, engineers, press and other technical experts attended the six conferences of IDF Fall 2002. The circuit even included a number of firsts for the program, which began modestly in 1997 as a gathering of 200 in San Francisco. Russia hosted the first IDF in Eastern Europe last October, and its success -- the one-day conference drew nearly 900 attendees -- has paved the way for a planned return to Moscow one year later. Another growing technology center, Mumbai, hosted the first Indian conference outside Bangalore, achieving record attendance for the country.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at http://www.intel.com/pressroom. For more information on IDF, visit http://developer.intel.com.
