PRESS RELEASE

Update of ZFS-based data storage software includes consistent snapshots for data protection and high-speed data recovery

Atlanta, Georgia; July 20, 2016: – Open-E, a leading developer of innovative data storage software used for building and managing reliable NAS and SAN storage environments, today released a new update of its data storage software Open-E JovianDSS with consistent Snapshots for the Off-site Data Protection functionality.

The ZFS- and Linux-based software – which has been designed for enterprise-sized Software Defined Storage environments – ensures data reliability and integrity for optimal data storage, protection and recovery.

Off-site Data Protection is a recently released feature of the software, offering a strategy for backup, archiving and Disaster Recovery. It enables asynchronous replication to local servers or co-locations, so that crucial data can be restored as quickly and easily as possible in case of natural or man-made disasters. The functionality is managed via the Command Line Interface (CLI) of the software, and does not require a separate backup agent to be installed.

With the Off-site Data Protection functionality in Open-E JovianDSS, consistent snapshots can be created, and snapshot deltas can be asynchronously replicated to local or remote destinations. Additionally, replication tasks can be scheduled for secure archiving according to specific user requirements. Encryption enhances security even further while buffered data replication significantly increases the efficiency in storage environments with Open-E JovianDSS.

The new feature effectively prevents data loss and minimizes the recovery time with high-speed data recovery, lowering the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) in every backup strategy. It also enables the setup of an application-consistent backup (incl. databases, operating systems, virtual machines etc.) with a retention interval as a Disaster Recovery plan for virtual environments based on VMware. The software now also includes VMware vSphere Storage APIs – Array Integration (VAAI) for data acceleration.

Krzysztof Franek, CEO and president of Open-E on the new update for Open-E JovianDSS: “Apart from the improved storage management features, this update helps to solve a key problem of almost every administrator: to have an easy and quick way to recover data, and get everything back up and running after an unexpected disaster. This is why companies benefit from a consistent backup solution with Open-E JovianDSS, as it is flexible and effectively prevents loss of data, time and money.”

The new update 15 for Open-E JovianDSS is available free of charge for all existing users of the software, and can be downloaded on the Open-E website
