PRESS RELEASE

Battery-powered router lets users easily share videos, music and photos across devices

London, 31 October 2012 - D-Link is expanding its Cloud Router series with the launch of the Pocket Cloud Router (DIR-506L) to address the demands of today's mobile generation. The latest addition to its Cloud Router family of products gives users a convenient way to share digital content, as well as an internet connection ‘on the go'.

The slimline Pocket Cloud Router can fit into a jacket pocket or small handbag and is powered by a rechargeable battery with up to 4 hours life. The router creates a localised network, generating a personal cloud for mobile device owners to access, view and share content easily. This means users no longer have to rely on a nearby, accessible power outlet or Wi-Fi connection and now have an intuitive and affordable way to meet their connectivity requirements, wherever they are.

This ability to view and share content is enhanced when combined with D-Link's SharePortTM Technology. Users can simply download the free app, SharePortTM Mobile to an iPhone®, iPad® or AndroidTM device to access, view and share content from a memory stick connected to the Pocket Cloud Router's USB port. This makes the Pocket Cloud Router a perfect personal cloud device for users sharing music or photos with friends, as well as workers wanting to share documents with colleagues in meetings or on the move.

Using SharePortTM Mobile, people can not only easily access contents from their mobile devices but also back up files onto a USB storage device wirelessly, without the need for a computer. This benefits those who carry a large number of files with them on their mobile devices but don't always have the time to create second copies in case of loss or theft, or just don't have a USB port on their device. In addition, the USB port can be used to charge mobiles and similar devices, up to 5v/0.8A (4W) - which will support many of today's popular smartphones.

Like the Mobile Cloud Companion (DIR-505), the Pocket Cloud Router can operate in multiple modes. In Repeater mode, the device helps to eliminate gaps in your wireless coverage, extending the scope and range of connectivity throughout the home. Further modes include the Router/Access Point mode and the Wi-Fi Hotspot mode, which instantly adds Wi-Fi capability to an existing Internet connection. By linking the Pocket Cloud Router directly to an Internet modem or Internet point in a hotel, for example, users are able to wirelessly share the same Internet connection simultaneously.

Adrian Edwards, Consumer Solutions Manager at D-Link UK & Ireland, commented: "The popularity of tablets and smartphones has changed the way we all work and interact. This shift in behaviour demonstrates the need for cloud technology, and convenience and mobility it brings to our lives. As the latest addition to our product range, the Pocket Cloud Router gives users the ability to seamlessly access and share content, providing them with their own personal cloud whatever their location or proximity to power."

D-Link plans to launch a new version of its Mobile Cloud Companion (DIR-505), integrated with mydlinkTM Cloud Services later this year. This increased functionality will also be extended to owners of the Pocket Cloud Router (DIR-506L) via a firmware upgrade to be released by the end of the year.
