Hands-up, we were wrong. Having predicted that Portal 2 developer Valve would be behind "The Last Of Us", we’ve now had confirmation that it will actually be Uncharted developer Naughty Dog behind the PS3 exclusive.

Teased last week and revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards yesterday, “The Last Of Us” was confirmed as a survival action horror adventure headed by studio game director Bruce Straley and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves director Neil Druckmann.

Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells explains more:

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind. Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

Having recently released one of 2011’s finest action adventures in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, it's no surprise that the PlayStation community is already very excited at the prospect of Naughty Dog spearheading development. Judging by the trailer, there's very good reason to be excited too. Not only does "The Last Of Us" have the potential to be one of the best original IPs of this console generation, it may even be scarier than Dead Space 2!

What do you think of the trailer?

Looks good so far and Naughty Dog have a great track record. Considering they are touting it as a totally new IP it is very, very unoriginal though, could be a trailer for any number of games if I didn't know it was new.
Another exclusive…..joy.
Anything by Naughty Dog normally = win…
However as mentioned above the trailer does look quite generic :/
When is Naughty Dog going to do a brand new Crash Bandicoot?
Such a shame that it's going to be a PS3 exclusive.

I Am Legend, anyone? :P
