PRESS RELEASE

BullGuard's Behavioural Detection Technology takes top marks

London, 6th May 2011: The latest anti-virus test figures for Windows 7 from AV Test, the independent IT security institute, have been announced and BullGuard has proved itself as a top player. BullGuard Internet Security 10 was tested and compared with the top 22 internet security suites. A product has to reach at least 11 out of 18 possible points in order to receive a certification, only 17 products fulfilled the requirements and received an AV-Test certificate. BullGuard's certification placed it high in a list of the who's who in the internet security industry.

Thanks to the continual development of its state-of-the-art detection technology, BullGuard dominated protection tests. Receiving 5.5/6.0 for overall protection against Malware including; viruses, worms and Trojans, BullGuard proved that it is at the top of the game for online security, exceeding all industry averages in this category.

BullGuard has developed a carefully established, maximum security environment in its Internet Security 10 suite, with an innovative architecture based on layered defences and technologies known as Behavioural Detection Technology. The layers include a multitude of different technologies such as web scanning, behaviour blocking and traditional signature detection tools. BullGuard's unique way of combining the different technologies guarantees that any malicious code which gets through one layer, will be caught by the next. BullGuard has added behavioural detection technology as a component to traditional signature based and heuristic virus detection - the methods that most of its competitors are still basing their detection on, and the AV Test labs results paint a very exposing picture of the difference this makes.

The test results unveiled some shocking results from some of the industry's most prominent brands. Top players seem to have become complacent when it comes to protection, which in-turn leaves their customers at risk with below average online protection. Microsoft Security Essentials dropped ten places from 11th to 21st and McAfee is down even further from 7th place to 18th. Other names such as Panda, Symantec, and G-data also dropped the ball in the AV Test, and AVG, the former winner of the tests took a tumble down to 6th place.

"To understand BullGuard's Dynamic Detection Testing results better, it is perhaps worth explaining the difference between heuristic detection and BullGuard's unique behavioural detection: While the heuristic detection technology - which some of our competitors see as the future of the security industry - is the ability to detect mutations of already known viruses based on traditional signature detection, Behavioural Detection is an altogether different technology: the engine identifies viruses long before traditional virus detection - heuristics or not - based on the behaviour of the virus. Consequently, instead of merely catching viruses once they've made their way to the virus signature database, Behavioural Detection identifies viruses which behave abnormally based on file, registry, process, and network events on the computer and shuts them off," explained Claus Villumsen, Internet Security Expert at BullGuard.

AV-Test Labs, the independent test lab, published the Q1 2001 results on April 15, 2011 at www.av-test.org.

22 security products were reviewed in the test, including suites from all the major players in the market such as Kaspersky, PC Tools and Norton.
