The third member of the GeForce 500-series was officially launched today, bringing the refinements of the second-gen Fermi architecture to the already impressive GF104. As well as a tweaked architecture the new GTX 560's GF114 core has more shaders and faster stock frequencies than its predecessor, allowing it to trounce the GTX 460 and even beat the GTX 470.

There's pressure from the red team, though. Rumoured price drops for the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and the 1GB HD 6950 are likely to give consumers a lot of food for thought when looking for a graphics card at around the £200-mark. Nonetheless, our bang4buck analysis says that the GTX 560 TI offers great value for money, as well as excellent efficiency.

In terms of availability, the GTX 560 should be in ample supply. NVIDIA's manufacturing partner for the Fermi GPUs has had almost a year to work out all of the kinks, so we're expecting plenty of reference boards, and even a few custom models showing up today.

So let's look at where you can find NVIDIA's latest mid-range champion right now.

Pricing is correct as of 3pm, Tuesday January 25.

It looks like pricing is right around the £200 mark where it should be. We're particularly impressed by the selection of factory-overclocked boards at reasonable prices. A number of partners have even skipped the stock-clocked parts, opting instead for cards with a 60-80MHz overclock for only a few pounds more than the MSRP.

We also have to give a special tip-of-the-hat to Gigabyte for being the first to ship a GTX 560 overclocked to the notional 1GHz barrier. Our own overlocking attempts suggest that performance should be at least on par with AMD's stock HD 6950, which starts at about the same price.

Unfortunately availability isn't great, but there are cards out there if you absolutely have to have one. Scan has the best supply with a choice of three different brands, although Novatech has a few cards on hand as well. As ever, the shelves should start to fill as the week wares on, and eBuyer specifically notes that it's expecting an ample supply by Friday.

Some of them are…just. Give it a few weeks, I'm sure the price will come down.
There's a couple of models under £200 in there. How come everyone wants miracles every time a new card is released? It's priced at exactly the right level given its comparitive performance with all the other cards available. And don't forget that nvidia's larger die sizes mean their cards are inherently more expensive to produce than AMDs, so you're unlikely to see miraculously cheap cards from nvidia, tbh…

Yep the Onus is really on AMD to bite the bullet and take a hit to their margins in order to outsell Nvidia. If they could bring the 6950 1GB to market at something like £185 that would really put the ****s up Nvidia and probably steal a huge amount of sales from what is an excellent card (the 560ti)
Also posted in the other thread but ATI are set to slash the prices of the 6870, 6950 1gb/2gb models in wake of the 560 being released.

If its accurate a 6950 2gb model would set you back £207.
