PRESS RELEASE

Virgin Media today announces the launch of the Curzon Home Cinema app on TiVo®. The service, curated by Curzon cinemas, gives Virgin Media customers access to a range of independent films at the same time they are released into UK and Ireland cinemas, as well as classic and themed collections handpicked by Curzon’s movie experts.

Titles on the service include the multi award-winning Still Alice, the recently released Manglehorn starring Al Pacino and Andrew Haigh’s acclaimed 45 Years (28th August). The variety and class of films available allow film fans access to a library of quality independent cinema, all at the touch of a button.

The launch of Curzon Home Cinema on Virgin Media TiVo leads the way in feeding the growing consumer appetite for instant access to ‘day and date’ movie releases. The app will offer a ‘pay as you watch’ rental system, eliminating the need to be tied down to a monthly subscription. Once paid for, the film is available across a number of platforms. In addition, users can now pause then resume watching on another device, meaning film fans can never miss a moment of viewing.

David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media said: “We’re delighted to bring Curzon Home Cinema’s films and curated selections to our customers across the country. We’re passionate about keeping people entertained with an ever increasing movie offering which is why TiVo is the perfect home for Curzon’s app.”

Phil Mordecai, Director of Curzon Home Cinema said: “We are extremely excited to be bringing 80 years of cinema expertise to Virgin Media TiVo customers, who can now enjoy a Curzon Cinema experience in the comfort of their own home.”

For those looking to enjoy some independent films asap, Ailsa Ferrier, Programme Manager, Curzon Cinemas has recommended 5 films available now on the Curzon app on TiVo - an eclectic mix, but all brilliant and critically acclaimed.

WILD TALES

Director Pedro Almodóvar presents one of the most exciting independent films of the year in form of the wickedly hilarious and delightfully deranged Wild Tales.

Comprising of six stories of apocalyptic revenge, this is blackly comic film tackles the subject of what it means to lose control. Shocking, hilarious, violent and preposterous, this exhilarating thrill-ride is one that you'll never forget.

✮✮✮✮ “A terrific film” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

WINTER'S BONE

In one of her earliest screen roles Jennifer Lawrence is a revelation, bringing steel and grit to an original and unique heroine. Winter’s Bone tells the story of 17-year-old Ree (Lawrence) who is desperately seeking her father, a man who disappeared after using the family home as security for his bail.

She meets a wall of silence and hostility from the neighbours, and risks everything to protect her younger siblings and sick mother.

Nominated for four Academy Awards - Best Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.

THE LUNCHBOX

Saajan (Irrfan Khan, Life of Pi), plays a Mumbai office worker nearing retirement who is delivered the wrong lunch by a dabbawala. Young housewife Ila had intended it for her emotionally indifferent husband. To Saajan's surprise, the food is a vast improvement on his usual meal.

When he finds a note from Ila enclosed with another meal, he decides to write back. So begins Ritesh Batra's exquisite comedy-drama.

Nominated for a BAFTA in 2015

IDA

In 1960s Poland, a novice nun, about to take her vows in the Catholic Church, is told by her Mother Superior that she will be accepted into the church after she has visited her aunt. The young and prim Anna soon finds herself in the presence of the middle-aged Wanda, her mother's wayward sister. It is here that her past - and her real name, Ida - is revealed to her for the first time.

This triggers a remarkable journey into the countryside, to the family house, and to secrets that Director Pawel Pawlikowski ruthlessly exposes.

Winner of the Best Film Award, London Film Festival, 2013

BAFTA WINNER 2015 - Best Film Not In The English Language

OSCAR WINNER 2015 - Foreign Language Film

DRIVE

Adapted from James Sallis' pared down, thrilling novel, Nicolas Winding Refn's Cannes winner is one most electrifying and influential films of recent years. Ryan Gosling is the best getaway driver in the business, but when he tries to help the husband of a neighbour, he finds himself up against a gang of violent thugs, led by Albert Brooks' superb villain.

With its nod to Michael Mann and Martin Scorsese, this is an independent American crime film masterpiece and with a killer soundtrack to boot!
