Updated 27/10/06 Again, I get another few emails to inform me that Gavin (davidstone28) has edited the post for another trivial reason. I reinforce the fact that I think he is immature, and I have still not received any communication from him to let me know where the problem exists in the product that I sold him in the Summer! My comments were true at the time and for 3 weeks I was unable to get to use the internet for any prolonged period of time. If he insists on playing his immature little games to amuse me so be it. But everything that I have previously said still stands. Previous Comment: Ok, I didn't want to go down to his level, but after the numerous amount of abusive (and immature) PM's I have had from him (in the past week or so), I have decided to re-edit my comments. Gavin bought an X-Fi Xtrememusic soundcard off me, he paid via paypal, the payment came through immediately etc, so as far as the transaction is concerned that went smoothly. I clearly stated in my for sale thread that the card was OEM, the card was properly packaged, to avoid any damage in transit, Gavin did not alert me to any problems about delivery or packaging. The first PM i got from him was saying that the card I sent him wasn't an X-Fi, when infact it was; he managed to type in the code wrong, send me a complaint via PM before he realised himself that he had typed in the code. Before I sent the card out, it was in perfect working order, working in my current PC setup (ASUS A8N-SLi and X800XL etc etc); I tested the card out, and sent it well packaged to Gavin. I even downloaded all the latest drivers and put them on the CD as well as sending the original CD that came with the card. He came back to me (a fair few weeks after I sent it) complaining the card didn't work; the only description of the problem he gave me was that 'it doesn't work in Windows XP' I asked him his set-up and dutifully helped him for a few PMs (although he didn't elaborate on the problem), until he became abusive. He then proceeded to leave me the rating that I am sure you have read, as well as a few abusive PM's. I have eventually refused to give him a refund, for the following reasons: - Was sent as working - He didn't notify me about a problem until a fortnight after posting - He has continued with the barrage of insulting and immature PMs I hope this explains the situation for all those people that may want to hear the other side to the story. This seller (Muddyfox470) is a dishonest, lying, deceitful, unreliable seller lacking any sense of personal responsibility. Bought a X-Fi soundcard off him for £45 with payment via PayPal. I thought that his reason was a bit fishy as he said he was only selling it because he "didn't need a high end sound card." If he didn't need a high end sound card, then why did he buy it in the first place? His Trust ratings seemed okay, though with the benefit of hindsight, the ratings are almost exclusively in relation to him buying (cheap) items rather than selling. I certainly regret not looking at him ratings more thoroughly. Long story short, the card didn't work. I sent him numerous PMs detailing the precise technical problems, after having spent an absolute age trawling the Creative Labs forums for information as well as emailing Creative on a number of occasions, who eventually after numerous different attempts at technical solutions (PCI slots, BIOSs, clean installs etc) stated that the card was faulty. I just wonder whether the reason for him selling was actually due to it being faulty rather than him "not needing a high end sound card"? Hmmm...... The card also turned out not to be retail card at all, but instead some sort of early revision OEM card which he absolutely did not state in his sale thread. Creative aren't prepared to issue an RMA as they say that its an OEM card. The seller doesn't even know what OEM manufacturer it came from. I ask Muddyfox470 to take the card back and do a refund. He also makes a tacit admission that he had problems getting it working as well. However, he makes excuse after excuse, each one even more ridiculous than the last. Initially, he says he cannot take the card back because "has to go to work." When I point out to him that most people "go to work", he then says that he can't take the card back is that he wouldn't be able to sell it again, because he will "no longer have use of the internet for leisure activities." Which all seems very strange, given that he's since posted messages on the forums on a number of occasions. Is the real reason for him not taking the card back the fact that he knows that it doesn't work? The result of this is that I am £45 out of pocket, with a faulty non-working sound card, ridiculous and unbelievable excuses given to me by the Muddfox470 as well as a refusal to take the card back. As rip off merchants go, Muddyfox470 is doing pretty well. He's also £45 richer having perpetrated this scam. Over the years, I've bought alot of items from sellers on Hexus, eBay, Amazon Marketplace. I can honestly say that Muddyfox470 is the worst person I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. To top it all, he has now left a 'tit for tat' HexusTrust rating that contain false and misleading comments. If calling him a 'prat' after having to listen to ridiculous excuse after ridiculous excuse and refusal to take the card back constitutes 'abuse and insults', then so be it. Strange that its youngsters (Muddyfox470 is 20 years old) that seem want to accuse other people of being 'immature'. AVOID THIS SELLER AT ALL COSTS [Edit: This person has since been on these forums on a number of occasions since saying that he "no longer has time to use the internet for leisure activities" as an excuse not to take the card back. He has also been trawling the For Sale forum, dipping into transaction then pulling out. BEWARE. DO NOT TOUCH THIS GUY WITH A BARGE POLE.] |

Bought some Acoustic Energy Aego M speakers. Had the choice of buying from Kustom PCs or Overclockers. Easy choice really. Good, helpful pre-sales advice from Graeme regarding stock levels and like he said he would, he emailed me to let me know when the new stock arrived. Ordered in the evening and the goods were shipped out to me the next morning, with an email to confirm. A good point about the couriers they use - InterLink - is that you can track each stage of the delivery process. You see what time it gets picked up, when it arrives at the airport, when it arrives at the depot etc. Can't think of a better internet retailer that Kustom PCs in terms of the efficient, friendly and personalised service that they offer. |

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous customer service. I bought some ued DDR RAM (2 DIMMs) from a seller on the forums (not direct from Crucial). I couldn't get them to work in dual channel mode and after a couple of days of pulling my hair out, I eventually narrowed it down to one of the DIMMS being faulty. I phoned up Crucial, explained the situation with the DIMM being faulty (and MemTest86 errors), and they said send it back both modules as they wanted to ensure the best match possible if I was planning to run it in dual channel mode. The customer services assistants were extremely pleasant and helpful when I spoke to them. On the day they received it, the replaced both modules and sent out the replacement the very next day. Absolutely superb service. |

Bought an Aerocool VM-102 passive GPU heatsink for my 7900GT. One of the heatpipes was fractionally askew though it was unclear whether the manufacturing process has caused this or if the postman had given the package a kicking during transit. Was fairly confident that I could straighten the heatpipe as it was askew only slightly but I didn't want to risk voiding my warranty, so I emailed them, explained the situation and what I was planning to do. They replied within the hour, saying it was fine and that if I damaged it even more, then would still RMA it. The heatpipe was straightened very quickly and the cooler works like a charm. I really like The Cooling Shop as a retailer. Nice range of product, particuarly niche ones that you can't get elsewhere and they stick to their core strengths of mainly niche products rather than trying to stock every single product under the sun and over extending themselves. Top marks 5/5. Nice bonus that you can use PayPal to purchase items. [Edited: for typos] |

Bought an Inspiron 2200 laptop last year. Arrived in super quick time and they were happy to deliver to my place of work. Couldn't get the wireless working, even though device manager was reporting everything was okay and the drivers were installed. Phoned up Dell customer services. The woman there was very helpful and pretty clued up (love Irish accents on women ;)) She asked a few questions and ran through the factory reset procedure (the laptops have a hidden partition on the HDD which restores everthing to factory state). I suggested that the aerial might not be connected (the technical manual online shows that there's an aerial running along the edge of the screen which connects to the Dell wireless module). Very pleasant person to deal with. Courier arrived the next day to take the laptop back. A few days later, it arrived back with a note from the engineers saying that the aerial hadn't been connected! The same woman from customer services / technical support phoned up the same day and asked if everything was okay and whether the laptop was now working, which it was. Excellent example of good customer service and a company wanted to resolve the problem ASAP. Laptop has been running perfectly ever since, although that didn't stop me from buying a 3 year extended warranty! |

Was pretty disappointed with the service offered in relation to a recent Order, given that I have ordered from them before without a problem. I ordered a graphics card and GPU heatsink (at a higher price than other retailers) in the hope that it would be delivered prior to the Easter holidays. I selected guaranteed next delivery which should have meant it would be delivered on 12 April (or if they really cocked it up, then on 13 April). Both would be in good time before Easter Friday. After the order I get an email saying that my requested delivery address (I had asked for it to be sent to my work address) doesn't match my credit card address and for "1st orders" they don't despatch goods to anywhere other than the cardholders address. The thing is, I've ordered from them on several occasions before and they've previously posted items to my work address so there shouldn't have been a problem. I try to telephone them on 2 occasions at different times of day - answerphone only. I email them twice. No replies as of today's date. I looked on the order status screen and they still haven't "authorised" my credit card even though I've given them home address, my full contact details etc. I then notice a message on their website saying that due to a change their back end computer system, no details are held of previous orders prior to March 2006. As there is was no hope of it being delivered ontime, I had no alternative but to cancel the order. |

>> SCAN
|
22:13 - 11/Nov./2005 |
|
I've mixed experiences with Scan, having ordered numerous items from them over th e years. If the order is straightforward, everything is in stock and the goods are from reputable manufacturers, the order is painless. Things generally arrive on time, they are well packaged, the goods work / are not faulty. Problems tend to occur when orders are placed that are different to a simple routine transactions or are for unbranded or 'lesser branded' goods from the Today Only page. On one occasion, I ordered several items - all were said to be stock. When the order still hadn't been despatched after 1 week, I phoned them up. No one there realised that the order hadn't been despatched. One of the items was out of stock which was why the order hadn't been despatched. Nice of them not to tell me. When I asked when the item would come back in they said 'not for the foreseeable future'. My order could have been delayed for all eternity had I not phoned up..... Then there were the shennigans involving the Kingston ramdrive. Website said USB2.0, the package said USB2.0 but having tested it throughly it was only working at USB1.1 speeds (which is about 30 times slower). Its rather galling to have to pay return postage fees when the fault was caused by Scan. So I spent £50 ordering another Kingston ramdrive from dabs.com (a retailer I've never had any problems with). Subsequently I learned that Scan had a received a batch of "counterfeit" ramdrives from a supplier that had not been approved by Kingston. The website also doesn't allow you to login to your account information if you've changed addresses by moving house since first registering with them..... Pros:- 1. Price - particularly the free postage Hexus deal. Cons:- 2. Slightly disorganised company in terms of logistics, orders, stock control etc 3. Backend programming of the website doesn't seem particularly robust. 4. Some of the unbranded or 'unknown brand' items on the sales pages are absolute junk and not worth the money no matter how cheap. 5. Some manufacturers are not stocked eg. Antec |

Never had a reason to use customer services as nothing's ever failed.
