Conclusion

We certainly feel that it should be on your shortlist when speccing a high-quality Skylake build.

Manufacturers have inundated the enthusiast with more Z170 boards than they can reasonably shake a stick at.

Choosing the right board for you requires balancing the competing interests of price, features, warranty and support. ASRock, now a big player in the motherboard market, plies the Z170 market with a wide range of boards that cover all these attributes.

The reviewed Z170 Extreme 6 is a good choice for the enthusiast. Priced at £150 or so and full of useful features over and above what's provided by the chipset, the board is solid in every department. You needn't spend this much money, mind, as ASRock and Asus have perfectly acceptable boards at around the £100 mark, but for those looking for that bit extra, particularly in terms of storage, the Extreme 6 is a good bet.

Looking good, overclocking well and imbued with a quality BIOS, we certainly feel that it should be on your shortlist when speccing a high-quality Skylake build.
