Introduction

ABIT KV8 Pro VIA K8T800 Pro Motherboard

VIA's K8T800 Pro chipset is hot off the silicon press. A few added features and the all-important ability to lock sensitive PCI and AGP buses make the incumbent K8T880 more or less obsolete. VIA's Pro chipset is pin-for-pin compatible with its predecessor, so motherboard manufacturers will be able to easily switch to the Pro. ABIT appears to have made the switch with consummate ease. It's already launched a S754 K8T800 Pro in full retail form. The KV8 Pro is that board.

The specification sheet boasts a decent array of features for a £75 board. Let's now see if ABIT's effort really is as good as it looks on paper.
