The Intel Core i7-8550U is the chip of choice for today's premium thin-and-light laptops, and it's clear to see why. The 15W chip hits speeds of up to 4GHz and the quad-core, hyper-threaded design ensures supreme performance in both single- and multi-threaded workloads.

What's interesting is how performance from the same chip can vary from one laptop to the next. Both the Blade Stealth and ThinkPad X1 Yoga are outfitted with the Core i7-8550U, but the Lenovo machine is more willing to allow high frequencies for longer periods, resulting in a measurable increase in performance.
