3DMark 11 is the latest version of this hugely-popular synthetic benchmark. Making use of DX11 features such as tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading, it provides modern-day results and is available as a free download.

Putting the HD 7850 PCS+ straight in at the deep end, the intensive 3DMark 11 benchmark suggests that the 16 per cent increase in core frequency coupled with a two per cent bump in memory speed results in a performance gain of up to 13.1 per cent when compared to a reference card.

A healthy increase, and one that enables the PowerColor solution to leapfrog previous-generation hard hitters such as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570. At these factory-overclocked frequencies, a HD 7850 isn't far off standard HD 7870 performance.
