Fewer processing cores offers up the benefit of lower in-game power consumption. Also, the HD 7950's default voltage is lower than the HD 7970's.

Both reference cards share what seems to be an identical heatsink. The HD 7950's runs a little quieter because the GPU's a bit cooler and more energy-efficient.
