In the comprehensive look at AMD's new mid-range Radeon HD 5-series GPUs just yesterday, we noted that the £125 Radeon HD 5770 1,024MB could be justifiably considered half a Radeon HD 5870 card.

Shipping at the same frequencies but with 50 per cent of the theoretical shading and memory-bandwidth power, we pondered whether a couple of HD 5770s, run in two-board CrossFireX, would offer a better gaming experience.

At a combined cost of £250 - £50 less than a standard HD 5870 - let's examine just how good the duo are.
