Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1,024MB

Sapphire dropped off two Radeon HD 5770 1,024MB cards and a single Radeon HD 5750 1,024MB offering for review.

Exactly the same as the reference design direct from AMD, the card is, physically, a cut-down version of the Radeon HD 5850 and HD 5870.

Measuring 221mm x 111mm x 36mm (LxWxH), it's about an inch shorter than the faster HD 5850. It's also around 325g lighter, tipping the scales at a modest 533g.

Extremely quiet when idling but rising to a noticeable hum under load, the cooler looks more impressive than it actually is.

Clock speeds are identical to the reference's; the core runs at 850MHz.

The power requirements will pave the way for AMD's add-in board partners to design single-slot-taking cards. The reference card retains the double-height cooler, however.

A six-pin PCIe connector ensures that adequate power is delivered if the card is installed into older motherboards.

Four-board CrossFireX is support, yet we consider that most punters will consider adding just another board. We'll be pitting two of these cards against a single Radeon HD 5870 in an upcoming review.

The GDDR5 is, along with the Radeon HD 5870, the fastest we've seen thus far, operating at 4.8Gbps.

The rear plate is exactly the same as Radeon HD 5850, that is, two dual-link DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort.
