From the outside…

We were shipped the silver variant of the Eureka (VC8000SWA), also available in black (VC8000BWA), with the only difference being the colour.

Vital statistics up next, with dimensions of 540mm (H) x 205mm (W) x 650mm (D) the Eureka is far from small. In fact, it dwarfed my day-to-day Akasa Eclipse-62 chassis and wouldn’t fit in my desk due to its height!

So, size-wise we’ve established it’s a bit on the porky side. Therefore it should have an equivalent porcine-like weight, right? Nope!

The Eureka tips the scales at less than 9kg, making it an almost pure-aluminium chassis that’s as lean as it is big. Being as light as it is, the business end of the chassis causes the whole construction to be very much front-heavy, so an even platform is important when placing the Eureka. Handy, then, that it’s fitted with flip-out feet.

Up front the Eureka features a mix of plastic, brushed aluminium and black mesh. The door itself is a hunk of pure, curved aluminium with plastic caps top and bottom, the latter of which features vents to aid air-flow through the chassis.

There is something odd about the door, however. The mesh on the front serves no other purpose than decoration, with no holes or vents anywhere to be seen. We will take a look at the thermals later to see how this 'adornment' affects matters relating to heat.
