Shuttle is probably the best known mini-PC barebones maker and it has just introduced its first such product upgraded to utilise Intel's 4th Generation Haswell processors. Shuttle think that these new generation Intel processors are particularly good for mini-PC builds as they offer great power efficiency and enhanced integrated graphics capabilities.

Interestingly Shuttle's PR writer calls the new SH87R6 "A New Shocking Experience for Entertainment". The main features of this barebones mini-PC include support for the LGA1150 socket and ability to use Intel Haswell 22nm processors, motherboard with Intel H87 chipset, new chassis design, support for a dual-slot graphics card expansion, integrated ICE heat-pipe cooling technology and an 80 PLUS Bronze 300W power supply.

The Shuttle SH87R6 system also boasts the following ports; front panel 2x USB 2.0 (one quick charge USB port feeding up to 5V/2A) and a USB 3.0 port and 3.5mm audio I/O. Round the back you will find HDMI and DVI-I outputs, 4x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 ports, line-in and 7.1 audio out ports, eSATA port, gigabit Ethernet.

Internally you have support for any Haswell processor up to 95W, DDR3 1333/1600 MHz RAM Socket x 4 (maximum 32GB of RAM), Realtek 7.1 audio chip, SATA 6G. There are two drive bays; one 5.25-inch ODD bay and another 3.5-inch HDD bay. Via an optional accessory you can fit multiple 2.5-inch drives. There are four expansion slots on offer; a PCI-E x16 slot and a single speed PCI-E slot, also a long and a short Mini-PCIE socket for such things as a Wi-Fi card and an mSATA SSD. Shuttle says the SH87R6 uses a new larger 50mm cooling fan providing the same airflow, but a slower spin-speed than previous 40mm models, resulting in a quieter system. You can download the full specifications PDF here.

This barebones system is available in a black brushed finish. Its dimensions are 332(L) x 216(W) x 198(H) mm. Hardware.info have done a short review of the SH87R6 this weekend. The site concludes that "If you want to create a mini PC using Haswell technology, then this is a good option to consider, also if you want a portable system and don't require a battery." This new barebones is expected to arrive in September and be priced around £285.

Shuttle PC's are way overpriced and the performance on the mobos aren't too hot either.
WTF?? The R series used to come with a 500W PSU and now its the cheaper 300W one??
I wish a company would make a gaming orientated version of a shuttle, with a AIO liquid cooler, decent mobo and psu… Like an ROG system or maybe a supplier like Scan or Cyberpower…
Amazed shuttle are still around. mini-itx is so mainstream nowadays I can't see their niche being viable any more.
