HEXUS recently cast a keen eye over Patriot's Node - a portable wireless storage enclosure, priced at £80, and designed to offer extra on-the-go storage for your Amazon Kindle, Apple Android and Apple iOS-powered devices. The Gauntlet Node is shipped as an enclosure for the user to add their own 2.5in drive.

Now, spying an obvious opportunity for increasing sales, Patriot is shipping the Guantlet Node with a Toshiba MK3276GSX 320GB mechanical hard drive already packaged in the enclosure. Dubbed the Gauntlet 320 and retailing for around £125 - representing a £45 premium over an enclosure-only model - Patriot says the all-in-one device is capable of streaming up to 5.5 hours continuously from the built-in lithium-ion battery.

It continues to support up to eight devices concurrently, of which five can be streamed to simultaneously. Backed by a two-year warranty and available through the usual roster of retail partners, we're keen to see the next evolution of the Gauntlet, perhaps using a built-in solid-state drive for increased battery running time.

"The Gauntlet 320 will be the flagship in Patriot Memory's Gauntlet portable hard drive and enclosure ecosystem that already includes the award winning fully wireless Gauntlet Node and USB 3.0 Gauntlet 2 enclosures. With the Gauntlet 320 consumers can, out of the box, power a home network while also not feeling the compromise of purchasing the lower capacity version of today's most popular Android and iOS based mobile devices," the company said.
