In a video urging us to 'Experience the power of DirectX 12' Microsoft seeks to show off the resplendent 'unparalleled graphic fidelity' afforded by its latest graphics API. The theme of this particular video appears to be the uplift in performance facilitated by using DX12, compared to its predecessor DX11. Microsoft explains that "DirectX 12 is a ground-breaking Microsoft technology that gives game developers the ability to harness the full capabilities of a PC’s GPU(s) and raise the bar on graphic fidelity and immersive gameplay."

To prove its point we get to see the eye-candy on several upcoming blockbuster video games titles including the likes of Quantum Break, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Ashes of the Singularity, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Just Cause 3 and more.

In the video, embedded above, Microsoft promises DirectX 12 will furnish PC gamers with up to a 20 per cent increase in GPU performance and up to a 50 per cent improvement in overall CPU usage, with users enjoying reduced latency and smoother frame rates thanks to this. Furthermore you can't help but notice throughout the video the quality difference in DX11 and new DX12 graphics are pretty significant, especially with respect to particle and lighting effects shown.

Summing it all up, in a statement bound to split opinions, Microsoft heralds Windows 10 with DirectX 12, as "the best Windows ever for gaming".

Lets hope that this actually turns out to be the case.
If we really get the expected extra CPU performance, we can all go back to dual cores!
There's a bit of a storm brewing though over the MS app store and restricted access to games' executables killing driver optimisations.
I love how in the video they say DX12 is the fastest adopted API in over a decade, well Duh Microsoft that's because you haven't made any significant changes to that API in all that time, how long have we had multicore CPUs without an API to take advantage of them?
DX12 (aside having to install windows 10) stops modding games, letting games access file system (saving ini files etc), hooks for apps like fraps and other side loading apps. M$ are looking at M$ app store forcing pcs to run at xbox one spec regardless of your build? The day I have to install windows 10 and have to put up with this poop will be the day I start actually playing on my ps4!
