Google Docs and Sheets add-ons

Google is touting "a little something extra," for its Docs and Sheets users. These are add-ons for its office productivity software which expand the capabilities of these tools in one way or another. Users can find these software extensions via the Add-ons menu, selecting 'Get add-ons'. Currently all such utilities are free to download.

Google announced the availability of this add-on software yesterday and it already has about 60 such extensions available in the store with the promise of "lots more on the way". The official Google blog describes the add-ons as "new tools created by developer partners that give you even more features in your documents and spreadsheets". The add-ons cover such tasks as address label mailmerge printing tools, bibliography creation, custom email mailshot creation and document approval tools.

While all the tools available in the add-ons store are free at this time it is thought that Google will also offer paid for extensions from third parties. NeoWin notes that Microsoft launched a similar web store for add-ons for its Office 2013 suite just over a year ago.

New Microsoft Office for Mac on its way

Microsoft will release the first new version of its Office suite for Mac since 2011, reports Pocket Lint. The information came from Microsoft's Office products manager in Germany. The new software will be revealed later this year and will thus probably be dubbed 'Office for Mac 2014'.

While no new features destined for this Mac version of Office were put forward we can expect it will catch up with the Windows version in some aspects such as the new interface, scheduled tasks and so on. Office 365 subscribers on the Mac "will automatically get the next Office for Mac at no additional cost," a Microsoft spokesperson told Pocket Lint.

So the Mac will get a new Microsoft Office suite in the not-too-distant future but we are still awaiting official confirmation of the strategically important release for the iPad. Could it be released at the same time?
