Back in November, we reported the OneNote update for Windows 8.1 with several new exciting features. A month on, Microsoft has announced a new update for OneNote on Android devices, enhancing features of its freebie Office suite note taking application.

With the belief that the update will allow users to “Do more in less time”, the team behind the app revamp suggests that “you can add what’s most important to you from any application on your Android device.”

Native sharing

The new update goes live today in the Google Play Store, integrating the app with Android devices’ built-in sharing functionality thanks to native sharing. It will allow users to pull up a native sharing menu inside apps, from which to add new content to their OneNote notebooks instantly.

Widgety grub

While previous Android widgets remain; providing options which allow users to view their most recent photos, notes and recordings. The update comes with a new widget, making it even easier for users to display shortcuts to pages, sections or notebooks upon the homescreen of their Android devices.

Multi-window

Other improvements include a multi-window function which is employed on some of Samsung’s Galaxy and Note devices, allowing OneNote to open on screen beside other Android applications. It's a great productivity feature on large screen devices. Interestingly, with these extra features the Android version of the app clearly bests OneNote's capabilities on Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.

The update takes the Android app a step closer at feature parity to the Windows 8.1 version, including several bugs fixed to improve overall experiences, and perhaps giving users a reason to consider it over rival note-taking apps such as the popular EverNote.

Nice to see windowing on Android embraced. I hope it will become a standard and easily implemented feature one day.
What if Microsoft were able to combine Windows and Android in a phone then sell it for 1/4th the price of Apple
^^ that'd be awesome
