Asus has written to HEXUS to say that its Republic of Gamers branded Swift PG258Q gaming monitor will ship at the end of February. We first heard about this monitor back in September when Asus ROG announced that it was "coming soon" but later elaborated that we should expect to see it "early 2017".

The Asus ROG Swift PG258Q uses a 24.5-inch TN display panel. It offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a headline refresh rate of 240Hz, and response time of 1ms (grey to grey). Asus has equipped this monitor with Nvidia G-Sync hardware to make the most of the wide range of refresh rates available (30 - 240Hz with a DisplayPort connection, 24 - 60Hz via HDMI). Other key specs of this 'frameless' non-glare display are; a max brightness of 400 cd/㎡, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and wide viewing angles 170°(H)/160°(V).

Talking about the super-fast refresh rate availability, Asus says that it facilitates "amazingly-fluid gaming visuals with no frustrating lag or motion blur, giving gamers the upper hand in first-person shooters, racing, real-time strategy and sports titles." When paired with a G-Sync graphics card you will be able to push your gaming immersion deeper with the elimination of screen tearing, and minimal display stutter or input lag.

As usual with an ROG monitor, we see the Asus GamePlus and Asus GameVisual technologies deployed. GamePlus provides a crosshair overlay, an onscreen timer, a frames per second (FPS) counter, and a display-alignment function. GameVisual tech provides six preset display modes to suit various game genres (Scenery/Racing/Cinema/RTS/RPG/FPS/sRGB Modes), all easily switched between using the rear edge five way joystick controls. Furthermore, the Asus ROG Swift PG258Q is compatible with the Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit.

Asus has designed the ROG Swift PG258Q with its usual bold gaming aesthetics. For extra frills it includes a 'Light Signature' function to project customisable light shapes under the monitor base (see above). The stand is adjustable with Tilt : +20°~-5°, Swivel : +50°~-50°, Pivot : 0°~+90°, and Height adjustments : 0~120 mm. Its minimal edge bezels make it a good choice for multi-monitor setups and you can attach it to a 100x100mm VESA mount.

As mentioned in the intro, Asus has said this gaming monitor will be available worldwide by the end of Feb, pricing is yet to be revealed.

I dont understand this new RGB Lighting phase. I guess its personal preference, but rather than have light projected onto your desk for aesthetic reasons only, why not implement some kind of “ambi-light”-esque tech? Much more immersive experience when the screen to wall (behind monitor) transition isn't as sharp. Particularly with the new thinner bezel monitors.

This might actually help to improve the playing experience rather than be purely a design choice.

Philips own the patent on ambient light tech

Yeah and 3 or 4 Titan X to achieve 240Hz, on 2 you will have a up to 170Hz.
Regards,
It's a TN panel, and its 1080. Move along, nothing special to see here…
