Intel SoC To Power New Generation Of Consumer Electronic Devices

Another diamond to come out of presentations at the Intel Developer Forum today, was the Intel® CE 2110 Media Processor, it being a complete SoC (System-On-A-Chip) media processor that is expected to power the new generation of consumer electronic devices.

From VOIP video phones to interactive gaming, the Intel® CE 2110 Media Processor features a processing core running at 1GHz, with the aptitude for A/V processing and graphics, as well as I/O components on a single chip. This design is expected to gain momentum and desire within the consumer electronics market, where streamlined development times, cost effectiveness and a repertoire of more advanced products are sought after goals.

The new media processor has already been adopted by Taiwan based Chunghwa Telecom, for their Multimedia on Demand (MoD) service deployment, which will the company, a leading telecom service provider, expand their HD video content, e-banking and so on.

A set-top box, powered by the Intel® CE 2110 Media Processor, is also in the works at ASUS.

Supported by a modular software development environment, the media processor also features MPEG-2 and H.264 hardware video decoders, a DDR2 memory interface and 2D/3D graphics accelerators.
