Acer has updated its range of Switch convertibles with the largest screened version vet, the Aspire Switch 12. This new Windows powered portable is said to offer 5-in-1 functionality thanks to a newly designed kickstand and magnetic, latch-less detachable keyboard. It is also the first to be powered by an Intel Core M processor. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covered Full HD touch screen measures 12.5-inches in diagonal. Users should enjoy about 8 hours of battery life even when watching video.

In September Acer updated its Aspire Switch convertibles with updated 10-inchers and new 11-inch models. The updates included screens of various resolutions and processor choices including Intel Atom and Core i5 processors. It hasn't taken long to devise and launch this new 12.5-inch screened model but it may have been waiting in the wings for particular Intel Core M processors to be launched. As mentioned in the intro, this model brings more than an internal component update and a bigger screen - the flexibility of the device has also been expanded.

Five modes

Acer boasts that this new member of its Switch 2-in-1 series actually offers users 5-modes-in-1. The modes are as follows: notebook, pad, display, tent and desktop. We are also told that the pair of front facing speakers are great for a "full audio experience on the go". The new flexibility is thanks to a "unique kickstand" offering more screen posing and angling options.

The Acer Aspire Switch 12's screen uses IPS technology plus Zero Air Gap direct bonding technology for brighter vivid colour reproduction and wide angle viewability. The touch screen is treated with an anti-fingerprint coating to keep it as smudge free as possible.

Looking inside, Acer claims the Intel Core M offers "a compelling combination of computing performance and stunning display graphics". Thanks to its miserly use of power users will also be able to enjoy up to 8 hours of video playback using this new convertible. The Acer Aspire Switch 12 is a fanless design. Buyers can choose models with either 60GB or 120GB of SSD storage.

Pricing and availability of the new Acer Aspire Switch 12 is yet to be announced. Engadget suggests that this new convertible will start to appear in the US in early 2015.

I wasn't expecting Intel Core M based tablets/switch convertibles/any product so soon. Though not interested in buying these.
Very nice although would need to see what connectivity option it has - USB ports and crucially MicroSD slot
Tempted by somethig like this to replace aged netbook. At this point in time won't be buying anything that doesn't come with Windows 10 though unless massively reduced.
It's a pity Broadwell isn't out yet for products like these, just imagine the battery life if that was an option.
